  What first inspired you to start writing, and why did you choose romantasy as your genre? I can’t pinpoint an exact moment I knew I wanted to be a writer, I know I’ve always been an avid reader. I loved contemporary, fantasy, romance (when I was a teenager and older) novels. At some point, I began to wonder ‘what if this story ended differently?’ or ‘what if the characters were from a different ethnic background / other marginalized identity, how would they relate to the world differently?” And from there I started with Disney fanfiction, before graduating to novellas and short stories, and finally, my first novel at 16. Since I loved the romance and fantasy genres (because romantasy wasn’t really a thing when I was growing up), I often wished they would become a genre together. I love writing it because you can elevate a fantasy world by adding romantic tension in it, and vice versa. You can do more with a romance story when you have a fantasy world involved—double the escapism!...

Ever since I can remember, I've been an ocean child at heart. A little background: because I have bad knees and asthma, exercising on land wasn't always easy for me, so I preferred swimming. The salt breeze helps my asthma, too. I was never scared of deep water, and the sea is an endless source of fascination for me. I was inspired to write  Oceansong  when I was on a cruise vacation with my family, and I remember standing at the balcony one day, looking out into the sea's churning waves. And as it does on vacation, my mind began to wander. If I were to dive into the sea right then, what would I find? How deep would it go?
